  1. The brilliant Chris Gilchrist from the famous BBoy Crew, Beat Breakers and owner of Rhythm City in Plymouth, came down to Truro to hold a 2 hour Breakdance Workshop with Dancers from all over Cornwall, this August 14th.

Chris took students through the history of BBoys and Bgirls, how it all began and what Breakdance means, giving the students a great background in the technique and encouraging them to move further and to work hard towards their goals in dance. Going through the basic's, we looked at ways to improve strength and stamina for Breakdance, and he held little drills to help the students get to know the moves well.

We looked at Up rocks, Down Rocks, and Freezes - students learnt the cricket, and baby freezes and a few students picked it up and managed to achieve this freeze for the first time in the session!

For our more advanced students Chris talked them through how to build strength and how they might improve previously learnt moves, he encouraged them to create their own styles and explained that there are no rules, if you think of new moves just go with it!

We all had an amazing afternoon, and students came away from the workshop buzzing! Very inspired and ready to work hard to achieve their Breakdance dreams!! We want to say a huge thank you to Chris Gilchrist and we cannot wait to get you down here for another Bboy/girl workshop in Cornwall!!

  2. Playfest is one of the biggest daytime festival's for families here in Cornwall. This year it was held at Boscowan Park on August 6th and 7th and we were very lucky with the fantastic weather we had over the two days of festival fun!!

Cornwall Dance were priveledged to be a part of Playfest for the second year in it's running, running workshops and holding performances from students at the school. From Streetdancers to Breakdancers and Contemporary dancers our students had the chance to show off routines from previous shows and new choreography for the new term!

We had a fantastic time holding workshops with members of the public over the two days! Children and adults alike all joined in with the streetdance and breakdance routines! All joining in with the Dance off Circle at the end of each workshop which ended up becoming quite a party! We were very impressed with how much fun everyone was having dancing away and showing off moves to the crouds, that's what we like to see!!

There were Circus acts from Swamp Circus, Magicians, Musicians, Bands and Singers, Climbing wall's, Games, Food and many many activities to get involved in throughout the two days and it was great to see so many people coming along and joining in with all of the activities and fun we we all had!

What a fantastic way to bring the community together and a great day was had by all!! Cannot wait for next year!!
